Guitar Lessons - General Information

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the parts of the guitar & how to care for & restring it properly
  2. Become familiar with commonly used accessories for the guitar,including how & when to use them
  3. How to tune, using both electronic tuners as well as tuning relatively by comparing notes on one string to another by ear
  4. Understand basic music theory as it relates to guitar
  5. Know the 3 major & relative minor chords in at least the common keys of C, G, D, E
  6. Understand major scale & chord construction
  7. Be able to play 2 octave major scales  including the use of open strings in the keys of A, C, D & G 
  8. Be able to understand & apply reading tablature & standard notation using scales & sample tunes
  9. Know 6 basic accompaniment patterns, including both strums & finger-style, & be able to decide which is appropriate for a variety of musical styles
  10. Understand the importance of alternate pick direction for speed & accuracy, & apply it to scale & lead, or solo playing

Upon completion of the first year the student should be able to play & accompany various tunes of several styles displaying the skills developed using the above method.
 
Of course, attainment of the above guitar skills is entirely dependent upon the student's desire and amount of daily guitar practice. 

Pricing and Policies

Who we teach

We teach guitar to all ages on Acoustic or Electric Guitar and Electric Bass.
 
Our guitar teachers provide instruction on a variety of styles including Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Contemporary Christian, Classic Rock, Pop and Alternativel.  
 
Kids - The ideal age for beginning guitar instruction is 9 - 11 years old.   Guitar instruction for children younger than 9 is done with prior approval.

Adults - It's so easy to get started learning guitar.  Don't put off that life long dream to play guitar any longer.  You'll be playing a tune the first day!
